GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — CEO of Midland Hospital, Marie de Vos, was delighted to report to the Advertiser that the hospital treated significantly fewer road accident victims over the holiday period this year.
The statistics cover the month of December, and the beginning of January until the Sunday before the start of school.
This season, a total of 50 patients were treated in December, with 7 of those having serious injuries necessitating transfers to hospitals in Port Elizabeth. This compares with 90 patients in the same period the previous year.
From January 1 until last Sunday, January 8, there were only 13 casualties, which compares very favourably with last January, when 33 motor vehicle accident patients were treated.
The vast majority of those treated over the holiday period were long distance travellers.
De Vos is proud of the way her staff handled the occasional crises, and would like to thank them for their hard work over the festive season.
Members of staff in the casualty section (both nursing and administrative) were obviously under the most pressure, but staff from other wards helped willingly and with professionalism when necessary.
