GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — Good news for all honey lovers is that Hospice Honey is now back in stock in Graaff-Reinet.
Hospice Honey is bottled on a farm in the Western Cape, and is sold only to registered hospices throughout the country with the understanding that they, in turn, sell it at the suggested retail price of R40 per bottle, and that all proceeds will be kept by the relevant hospice.
Hospice Honey is sold at R40 for a 375g plastic bottle. Unlike many imported brands of honey, which have been diluted with sugar syrup, it is pure honey bottled on the farm.
Other than at the Hospice office, local folk can get theirs in Graaff-Reinet from Oasis, Brian Bands Sports, Reinet Studios, Die Smous, and Reinet Antiques.
This has proved to be a very popular revenue- generating project for Hospice, which helps to boost their monthly income. They had hoped to receive their supplies before Christmas but, due largely to the dreadful drought, the bees have not been producing as much as the farmers were hoping. There is still plenty of stock at this stage, but if previous experience is anything to go by, it is unlikely to last for long.
There are many proponents of the health benefits of natural honey, particularly when it is combined with cinnamon. According to many sources, conditions as diverse as heart disease, bladder infections, arthritis and high cholesterol can be alleviated and in many cases cured by the regular ingestion of a combination of these two natural ingredients. Cinnamon is readily available in the supermarkets, so why not support Hospice and try some of these remedies for yourself. It is claimed that tea made with honey and cinnamon powder taken regularly even arrests the ravages of old age!
