NIEU-BETHESDA NEWS — Following the success of the previous ‘Full Moon Walk’ in 2015, Nieu-Bethesda is looking forward to another event of this kind on March 11.
This year, the walk will take place on a Saturday evening, the night before full moon.
Treat your family to an unusual and beautiful outing by walking the 12km or 5km route that starts in the picturesque village as the sun starts to set. The drive out to Nieu-Bethesda is a mere 40 minutes from Graaff-Reinet – come a little early and enjoy a stroll through the village in the late afternoon as a warm-up before registering at the Nieu-Bethesda Sports club from 5pm. The route begins through the village, goes past the world-famous Owl House, the Sneeuberg Brewery and then out past ‘Uitkyk’ and along a dirt road into the expanse of Karoo beyond. The sight of the huge moon rising as you crest the pass out of the village is truly a once in a lifetime experience.
Participants can run or walk the 12km route – just ensure that you have strong walking/running shoes and a headlamp. There is also a 5km loop that will begin after the start of the 12km event for those who prefer a shorter route. A light supper will be served at the Nieu-Bethesda Sports club afterwards where locals meet for their weekly get-together. A cash bar will be available. Should you wish to stay over for the night, visit www.nieubethesda.biz for information on accommodation.
Be sure to diarise this exciting event which is one not to be missed. For more information call 071 875 8521. More details will be available in the press over the next few weeks.
