NIEU-BETHESDA NEWS — Nieu-Bethesda residents Margie Afonso, Belinda du Toit and Jacques Muller recently completed the roughly 100km route around the Sneeuberg’s iconic Compassberg.
In what he terms an ‘absolute life changing event’, Jacques Muller expressed delight in the physical beauty and spiritual upliftment that he encountered on this journey.
While Du Toit and Muller completed the entire route over five days, Afonso completed three days and they were joined by Sophie Jacobs and Lowry Swartz on their last two days of the circular route into the village.
The group were hosted on various farms each evening and were seconded by friends and family who provided them with moral support and sustenance at the end of each day.
Wind and weather made the going tough, but the incredible beauty of the Karoo autumn, and the true solitude and silence that they were a part of as they circumnavigated the Compassberg made for a worthwhile Camino.
