GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Seven Old Unionites recently made their school and Graaff-Reinet proud, when they were each invited to join the Golden Key Honours Society for their respective academic achievements.
The society is the world’s largest honour society that connects high achieving individuals locally, regionally and globally. The society focuses on academic excellence, leadership and community service. Only the top 15% of university students receive a Golden Key and a Golden Key Certificate for their performances.
The achievers are:
Tracy-Lee Abels
Abels, who matriculated from Union in 2018, is currently in her second year of studies at the Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth. She is pursuing her Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in English and Anthropology.
Amanda Brink
Brink, an aspiring occupational therapist, is studying towards a BSc OT Degree at Stellenbosch University. She matriculated from Union in 2018, was first in her class, and was awarded the Johann Rupert Achievement Award for being the top matric in Graaff-Reinet that year.

Kerrin Kingwill
Kingwill is currently a second-year student in the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s MbChb degree programme. She matriculated from Union in 2017, after which she spent a gap year at the Salisbury Cathedral School. Her academic achievements also include the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship for ranking in the top five students of the University’s Health Sciences Faculty for every semester completed by her thus far.

JP Kruger
Kruger matriculated from Union in 2017, and is currently employed full-time as a technician at the school. He is enrolled in the North West University’s distance learning programme and working towards a Bachelors in Education. He hopes his achievement will inspire others, and prove that it is possible to earn a degree while working full-time.

Yente Retief
Retied matriculated from Union in 2018. She is currently studying towards a Bachelors of Visual Arts Degree at the Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth, majoring in photography. While at Union, she excelled academically, served as a prefect and took the field for the school's 1st hockey team.

Rose-Innes is a Bachelor of Accounting Degree student at Stellenbosch University. She hopes to become a charted accounted someday. She matriculated from Union in 2018, and was second in her class.

Van den Berg is studying towards a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Rhodes University. She has also been placed on the Dean's Merit List for her academic achievements. She matriculated from Union in 2018, and was fifth in her class.
