GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - It was a successful week for Graaff-Reinet police, with a total of 34 suspects arrested (22 for serious crimes) and five convictions secured in court.
One woman was arrested for attempted murder, four suspects for assault GBH, and two for common assault.
In property-related crime, there were four arrests for housebreaking and theft, one for robbery, one for shoplifting, and three for theft. There was also one arrest for possession of suspected stolen property, and three for theft from a motor vehicle.
One man was also arrested for possession of drugs, and one on an interdict.
In the so called “minor” crimes, eight suspects were arrested for being drunk and disorderly, three for drinking in public, and one for traffic violations.
In Klipplaat, one suspect in a housebreaking and theft case was sentenced to thirty months’ imprisonment. In Graaff-Reinet, a suspect was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, and declared unfit to possess a firearm, for housebreaking and theft.
For theft, a suspect was sentenced to a fine of R15 000 or three months’ imprisonment, suspended for three years.
The final two convictions resulted in imprisonment, with no option of a fine. For assault GBH, the sentence was two years’, and for housebreaking, the sentence was also a two-year sentence, as well as being declared unfit to possess a firearm.
This week’s confiscations are two golden Samsung cellphones , a yellow bag containing dagga, and a selection of Mandrax tablets and parts of tablets.
