GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Graaff-Reinet Advertiser previously reported that the Head of Protection Services in the Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality, Dennis Douglas Fortuin, appeared in the Regional Court in Nxuba (Cradock) on 22 and 23 July on charges of corruption and contravention of the National Road Traffic Act.
He was accused of issuing a code 14 driver’s license to an individual who had not undergone a practical test, allegedly during his tenure as a traffic officer in Nxuba.
The Graaff-Reinet Advertiser has since confirmed that Fortuin was found not guilty and acquitted of all charges against him on July 8 in the Nxuba Regional Court.
According to Fortuin, the allegations were a clear case of malicious prosecution aimed at tarnishing his reputation, as they were made just after he was promoted to Head of Protection Services.
He expressed relief that the principle of presumption of innocence until proven guilty was upheld.
"The rule of law prevailed, my innocence has been proven, and all charges against me have been dropped," he said.
All charges have been dismissed against the Head of Protection Services Dennis Douglas Fortuin.
