BUSINESS NEWS - The Firm, Derek Light Attorneys, Notary & Conveyancers, was formally established in January 1994 and celebrates its 30th anniversary this year with gratitude.
Derek Light, the founder, was schooled at Union High School. After a brief stint with the Department of Justice, he completed his articles with CH Maasdorp & Smit in Graaff-Reinet in 1985. Following this, he became a partner at Neville Borman and Botha in Grahamstown, practicing High Court litigation until relocating to Graaff-Reinet in October 1993.
During his time in Grahamstown, Light also served as an external examiner at Rhodes University's Law Department and lectured final year LLB students in the Private Law department.
In 1995, Derek married Moira Light (Kingwill), a Graaff-Reinet native and Union High School's top student in 1986.
Moira earned her LLB degree from the University of Stellenbosch and was admitted as an attorney in December 1994. She became a partner at Derek Light Attorneys in 1996, specialising as a Conveyancer and achieving the highest mark in the country in the conveyancing examination. Moira manages the conveyancing practice and holds positions on the panels for First Rand Bank Limited and Standard Bank, handling both commercial and residential matters.
Throughout the past three decades, Derek Light Attorneys has enjoyed unwavering support from Graaff-Reinet's residents and businesses, establishing strong relationships in neighbouring communities such as Jansenville, Aberdeen, Murraysburg, Richmond, Victoria West, and Middelburg.
The firm expresses gratitude for the loyalty of its client base, extending beyond the borders of Graaff-Reinet and the broader Karoo Community. The firm provides a range of legal services, including commercial work, conveyancing, estate administration, magistrate and high court litigation, family law, and notarial services.
