GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — The broader church community in Graaff-Reinet has seen some major changes take place in the last few years.
This includes the appointment of new ministers in the Dutch Reformed Church (formerly Grootkerk), Assembly Church, the Reformed Church, and most recently St James Anglican Church.
Another significant shift that has happened among the churches, one which can only be described as miraculous, is the unification of the two Dutch Reformed Churches, formerly known as the "Grootkerk" and "Nuwekerk", which took place on 1 January this year.
It was agreed during negotiations that the historic uniting of the two churches would be demonstrated by the churches meeting together at the "Nuwekerk" for a final short service before walking together from that church to the "Grootkerk", where they would be known thereafter only as the Dutch Reformed Church of Graaff-Reinet.
Part of the ripple effect of the blessing that came with their uniting, was the "Nuwekerk" building becoming available for the Assembly Church to rent.
If you have driven past the building in the last six weeks or so you would have noticed some of the changes taking place.
The Assembly Church has given the old buildings a new look inside and out.
Some significant changes have been made in order to make the space more suitable for their style of church services, including creating wonderful new children's church areas, creating a beautiful café area, and respectfully making the church sanctuary space more contemporary.
Assembly Church is getting things ready for their launch this Sunday, 25 March, so whether you have been looking for a church to belong to or are simply curious to see what it looks like inside, be there this Sunday at either their 08:30 or 10:00 service.
Absolutely everyone is welcome to attend the launch.
