BUSINESS NEWS - Eskom says it will wait for the outcome of the National Energy Regulator’s (Nersa) meeting before deciding on a way forward.
This follows a court decision which set aside the power utility’s latest tariff hike.
The North Gauteng High Court has found Nersa’s decision to approve the application for a 9,4 percent tariff increase was unlawful and the correct procedures weren't followed.
The regulator will be holding a special meeting this week to discuss the matter.
As it stands, consumers will still pay the increase, which came into effect in April.
The utility's Khulu Phasiwe says: "We will take our cue from the regulator. Once they’ve reached a determination, we will hear what they have to say and take it from there. It’s too early to say what out reaction will be to this matter."
Applicants including big business, civil society groups and the mining sector approached the courts, arguing Eskom’s tariff application had numerous irregularities during its approval process.
