GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The 7th Phoenix Merinos production sale took place on Wednesday, 5 September, at the Botanics Sports Club, Graaff-Reinet.
At the sale, 39 selected Phoenix rams sold for an average price of R6 100 per head. The highest price was achieved by lot number 4, sold by William Biggs to Francois Botha of Kareelaagte, Graaff-Reinet for R16 000. The buyer of the most rams (8) was Kolbe Kolver Trust of Philippolis.
The Phoenix Merinos breeders express a sincere thanks to all of their buyers, and to all sponsors, namely Octofin and Ceva who were joint headline sponsors, as well as Ascendis, MSD and StockFair. Auctioneer Gert Jordaan and his team from BKB are also thanked for their professional service.
The 8th Phoenix Merinos sale will be held during February 2019.
* The Phoenix Merinos group consists of three Wellwood daughter studs along with the Wellwood stud of Robert Rubidge. The three daughter studs are Blaauwater (Justin Kingwill, Graaff-Reinet), Groenvlei (Johann Minnaar, Graaff-Reinet), and Vleiplaats (William Biggs, Murraysburg) - all leading Karoo Merino breeders and farmers.
They have bought Wellwood Merino rams over many decades, and started buying these together as a group in 2012.
