GRAAFF-REINET ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - The exquisite performance by soprano Laetitia Grimaldi and pianist Ammiel Bushakevitz at the John Rupert Theatre last Friday evening captivated the audience, many of whom had never attended a classical recital before.
The programme flowed seamlessly, with some piano solos from Bushakevitz allowing Grimaldi breathing space to rest her voice. These two highly talented musicians gave a world-class performance, which was a rare treat for around 80 members of the audience.
The couple arrived in Graaff-Reinet late on Thursday and spent Friday revisiting some of their favourite places from their last stay. Many of the tickets were sold on the day, and some of these guests were ones who had met the young couple during the day and been caught up in their enthusiasm!
Several people made it a cultural evening and first attended the opening of the new exhibition at the nearby Imibali Gallery.
“We were thrilled with the attendance and look forward to continued support from the community for future concerts,” enthused Rose Wright, acting chairperson of the theatre.
She added that Grimaldi and Bushakevitz hope to return again in three or four years, as they love Graaff-Reinet and have made many friends here.
“Laetitia is even saying that she thinks they should retire here!” said Wright.
