GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — Starting on Monday evening, 21 May, onwards, a selection of Walter Battiss original work and limited edition prints will be exhibited - with some being for sale - at the Imibala Gallery in Graaff-Reinet.
The opening will be held at 18:00 that evening and all art lovers are invited to attend.
This exhibition is being held concurrent with a Walter Battiss show at the Rupert Museum in Stellenbosch titled 'I invented myself'.
Walter Battiss (1906 - 1982) was one of South Africa's foremost abstract artists. His travels and particularly his interest in primitive rock art had a profound impact on his work. He was a prolific writer and an academic, retiring from Unisa as a professor of Fine Art in 1971.
