GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — Bush TV from Johannesburg will be holding a series of exciting events in Graaff-Reinet over the Easter weekend, under the banner of GRT Rox.
Two films will be screened, one of which is in three parts. African Negroes is a documentary about a Graaff-Reinet soccer team that was, in fact, a front for political activity during the State of Emergency.
This film will screen on 29 and 31 March.
Khoe Story is a three-part documentary series about the story of the Bushmen.
The documentary was produced by Weaam Williams, a female film-maker from Cape Town. Part 1 will screen on 29 March, Part 2 on 30 March and Part 3 on 31 March.
It would be advisable to attend all screenings so as to get the whole story. All film screenings will be held at Sobukwe Street, in uMasizakhe.
On 31 March there will be a Music and Stand-up Comedy Event, which will be held at Chris Car Wash, near the Town Hall.
The MC will be Jay Boogie, a stand-up comedian who has made a name for himself as an actor and TV presenter. He has performed on #ThandekasDiary on Soweto TV as well as Yo TV. Boogie was also the MC for the 2015 Soweto Comedy Festival.
The show will be hosting three top-class musicians.
Zano is a house musician with a huge local repertoire. He has worked with artists such as Riky Rick, Black Coffee, and Shota. He is a brilliant artist that knows how to work with the crowd.
Roserro is an Afro-Soul artist whose music resonates and touches one's soul. According to organiser Khululekile Banzi, "her lyrics are relevant, on point and speak to you as an individual. There is no way that you will not find a song that speaks to you during her set".
The third musician is Zanzolo , a Hip Hop artist with a conscious feel to his music. He calls it "Toyi Toyi Hip Hop", and delivers his raps in isiXhosa.
The DJ for the day is DJ Bennito, an upcoming and very connected DJ from Johannesburg. He is also an editor on the midnight TV show, Koze Kuse TV which broadcasts on SABC 1.
A TV production will also be undertaken, with the aim of exposing local Graaff-Reinet youth to the opportunities that the television industry offers, and the many areas of expertise that are involved. Young people are encouraged to be a part of this initiative.
This will be screened on 29, 30 and 31 March, at the same venues as the main events: ie at Sobukwe Street on Thursday and Friday and Chris Car Wash during the music concert on Saturday.
This initiative will incorporate local news, sports, events, artists, shout-outs, as well as anything of importance that will be happening in Graaff-Reinet during this time.
