GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - On Friday evening, 22 November, classical music fans are in for a real treat at the John Rupert Theatre. This is a rare and wonderful opportunity for Karoo residents to experience an elegant evening, with a performance by two world-class artistes, at the bargain price of only R100.
Soprano Laetitia Grimaldi and her fiancé, pianist Ammiel Bushakevitz, played at the theatre in April 2016, and since then, their fame has skyrocketed and they have performed all over the world.
The prestigious venues that Laetitia has graced include the Kennedy Centre in Washington DC and the Carnegie Hall in New York. Recent performances include tours in China, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, South Africa, Canada, USA and throughout Europe as well as performances with orchestras in Canada, Brazil, England and at the Château de Versailles.
In 2013 Ammiel released his debut solo CD, and he has since released seven commercial recordings to critical acclaim and five-star reviews. His recording of Schubert’s Moments Musicaux was used as the soundtrack of the 2017 Austrian film, Gwendolyn.
He has appeared at the festivals of Salzburg, Bayreuth, Lucerne, Melbourne and Montreal, the Festival Pontino di Latina in Rome, the Pablo Casals Festival in Barcelona, the Jerusalem Schubertiade and the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, France. Upcoming performances include recitals in London’s Wigmore Hall, Berlin’s Konzerthaus, the Shanghai Concert Hall and the Salle Pleyel in Paris. Truly a world-renowned pianist!
The couple will bring to their beloved Karoo an example of a musical soirée as performed in Paris in the 1920s.
“Paris in the ‘20s was buzzing with cultural life, and one of the most popular places for poets, painters and musicians to meet was in the salon soirées of the French aristocracy,” explained Bushakevitz. The 11 items on the programme are sure to uplift even the most discerning audience members.
The doors will open at 6pm, and wine and soft drinks will be available to purchase before the performance starts at 6.30pm.
