GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The highly anticipated Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival is going ahead this year, despite the recent devastation caused by the fires in the area. In fact, more than ever before the community of Knysna needs our support.
Taking place this year from July 7 to 16, the festival promises to be as exciting as ever, with the festival highlight, Pick n Pay Seafood Wednesday, promising to be better than ever.
The event traditionally brings together the best Knysna has to offer in one venue, where visitors can enjoy the freshest and most delicious seafood, wine and beer tastings, fish braais, live entertainment, and a whole lot more – essentially fulfilling the festival promise of having something on offer for everyone.
A firm favourite is always the Pick n Pay Fish Braai Competition, where locals battle it out for bragging rights as the best fish "braaier" in Knysna, and there's little doubt the ever-popular oyster eating and shucking competitions will be as action-packed as ever.
The Pick n Pay Flavours of Knysna is also back as part of the evening, and top restaurants from Knysna, Sedgefield and the surrounding area will compete for the titles of best-dressed oyster and best stand with a mind-boggling show of oyster preparations judged by festivalgoers. (Tickets for this event sell out fast so make sure to book yours now at www.webtickets.co.za.)
The Momentum Health Kiddies Area is a huge plus for moms and dads – it's fully equipped with a team of qualified child minders who will entertain your littlies throughout the duration of the festival. As an added bonus, the Kiddies Area will be open until 10:00 for Pick n Pay Seafood Wednesday and Flavours of Knysna, so parents can enjoy the evening, safe in the knowledge that their precious cargo is in good hands.
You really can't beat the value and variety of the Knysna Oyster Festival when it comes to a great winter holiday. Whether you're a sports enthusiast, on a fun family holiday or a group of singletons, these are going to be the 10 best days of your winter.
