ABERDEEN NEWS — Last Saturday evening, over one hundred people joyfully and gratefully braved the rainy weather to attend the Lady and the Tramp Valentine’s Dance in aid of Aalwynhof Old Age Home.
The Aberdeen Club was decorated to match both the theme of the dance as well as Valentine’s Day, with the table settings being a mixture of elegant, rustic and love!
The guests took the challenge of dressing up to heart and many a laugh and giggle could be heard as folk entered the Club. One comment was overheard where a Lady said that whoever chose the theme, hit the nail right on the head as the men could just “pitch up as they were”! Laughter broke out and the atmosphere was set for an evening of delicious dining, fun and dancing.
After some concern that the rain might spoil the braai, the weather cleared up in time and tender sirloin steaks were braaied to order by the ‘professional’ team of men and served with a sauce of choice, chips and garnish.
The competition for best-dressed couple was tight and in the end Wilhelm and Lea van der Vyver won the first place prize of a sunset trip to the Valley of Desolation with Karoo Connections. Second place was awarded to Buks van Niekerk and Corrie Koekemoer, and in third place were Hommie and Toesie Slabbert. The splendid evening ended in high spirits well after midnight, and everyone is already looking forward to the next occasion. The Aalwynhof board is very grateful to all who were involved in the planning and setting up of the function, as well as those who supported with donations and of course with their attendance. All involved agreed that it was a huge success, with just over R8 000 being raised for Aalwynhof.
