KAROO NEWS - Cradock High School (CHS) played against Union High School (UHS) on Saturday 23 April on homeground and enjoyed hosting their first derby day in over two years.
CHS's first rugby team started the game well by putting Union High School under pressure. Raywin Booysen scored within the first 10 minutes of the game. This try was converted by fly-half Niel Slabbert and put CHS 7-0 ahead.
CHS continued to press hard, but due to the wet conditions, they failed to round off opportunities to attack. UHS started to get good field position and towards half time slotted two penalties to make the half time score 7-6 in favour of CHS.
The second half was more evenly contested with UHS coming back strongly, putting CHS under pressure. CHS defended their line well, keeping UHS out.
Once CHS got themselves better field position, a break was made when full-back Keanu van Wyk scored, putting CHS 12 - 6 in the lead - the final score of the game.
CHS would like to thank all those who came to support the school.
