Speaking on behalf of the Spandau school community, Mervin Mackelina said the interschools meeting between the two local schools has always been met with great anticipation, excitement and a bunch of other exciting emotions.
“It is a time where the whole community gets involved. Not only is this a sporting competition, but a platform where all differences are put aside and a spirit of unity and upliftment prevails.”
He said Spandau has over the years grown, not only on the sports field but in friendship and solidarity.
“Yes, there were tears of joy and disappointment of defeat and in victory, but in the end, it made us all stronger and more focused.”
He said during this time of the year, hope and excitement fill the air.
“Everywhere you go, everybody is talking about the interschool’s event and people have waited all year long. Now that it is finally upon us, we are ready to prove ourselves and build a stronger relationship with our sister school.”
Spandau Secondary's principal, Eugene Mackelina described this as the most prestigious event for the community.
Mackelina said this event is sure to bring the prospect of unifying out two schools in true sportsmanship and camaraderie.
“Interschools is more than just a showdown between two schools to determine who emerges victorious. It is an opportunity to create and renew friendships, test one’s own strengths mentally and physically.”
Mackelina shared the following message: "To every individual participating, no matter how big or small the role, remember you create your own limit and that sport does not build character, it reveals it."
