SPORT NEWS - Fielding 16 teams, eight men and eight women, the Midland Trips competitions took place on the greens of the Middelburg Bowling Club on 1 and 2 July.
The men played in two sections and on a round-robin basis, the two section winners were:
- Johan van Onselen, Jaco Meyer and Danie Scherman from Middelburg on six game points and +32 shots.
- Ulrich Steynberg, Ivor Wakeford and Niel Colyn on five game points and +45 shots.
- After 18 ends the Middelburg trio were victorious with 18 - 17.
The woman playing was an all Graaff-Reinet Bowling Club affair between Sonia Matthee, Charlene Colyn and Priscilla West against Riana du Toit, Hannatjie Whitlock and Helene de Wet.
Matthee and her team won their section with six game points and +29 shots, while Du Toit and her players were also undefeated on six game points and +48 shots.
In the final, peels on the 11th end at 10-all was called, but then the Matthee combination picked up 10 unanswered shots to win the game with 21 - 12.

EP Trips Finals
The finals of the EP Trips will take place on 8 and 9 July at a club in the Eastern Areas. (Still to be decided on).
Open day
On Saturday 15 July Graaff-Reinet Bowling Club will hold an open day sponsored by Personal Trust.
The winners from Middelburg are Jaco Meyer, Johan van Onselen and Danie Scherman.
