GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - About 240 participants got active for a good cause at the Camdeboo National Park on Saturday 14 September, when they took part in the always eventful Tracks4Cancer.
The initiative, which includes events such as mountain biking, fun walks and motorbike drives, was founded in 2018 to assist the Graaff-Reinet Cancer Association with payments for treatments, transport and food. The event coincides with South African National Parks' Open Week.
According to one of the association's supporters and a volunteer at Tracks4Cancer, Johann Sparrius, Graaff- Reinet is currently home to about 200 cancer patients and survivors.
"The event's success would not be possible without the support of Park Manager Mzwandile Mjadu, his right-hand woman Rosemary Scheepers, and Senior Park Ranger James Maerman," Sparrius told the Advertiser. "Maerman's enthusiasm, advice and support to protect the cyclists as they made their way through the park deserves a special mention."
The event would also not be possible without the many volunteers. "The success of the event is proof that Graaff-Reinet locals can stand together," Sparrius said.
Little ones enjoying the fun walk.
