GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — Last weekend, 7 and 8 April, the Midlands Mixed Pairs competition took place on the greens of the Middelburg Bowling Club.

After the sectional play, the Fanie van der Merwe/Riana du Toit duo from Graaff-Reinet squared up against the Middelburg combination of Loraine van den Berg and Johan van Onselen, while the Somerset East side of Deon Deetlefs and Louisa van Staden traded blows with another Middelburg team comprising of Helen Louw and Willie van Heerden, for a place in the final.

The Van der Merwe/Du Toit pairing faced off against the Louw/Van Heerden couple in an entertaining final.

At the end of the day, the Graaff-Reinet side were worthy winners, defeating the local side by 24 shots to 12.

All the best to the Graaff-Reinet side in the EP Finals this weekend.

n Last Friday evening the Graaff-Reinet Bowling Club held a Pro 10 Pairs competition at the club. Played over 10 ends and only two bowls per player, the Arthur Langley/Altha van Zyl combination took the honours with a 62 - 38 win.

n The popular Spandau Spar Handicap Pairs competition will take place on the greens of the Graaff-Reinet Bowling Club this Saturday afternoon.
