GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — Hundreds of runners are expected to turn out on Saturday morning, October 1, for the third annual Windpomp Run.
The Windpomp Run is an major running event organised by the Graaff-Reinet Running Club in accompaniment to the Karoo-Lus Festival.
The race, which has seen a huge growth since its inception in 2014, will this year consist of a 21.1 km half marathon, a 10 km run and a 5km fun run.
As always parts of the run will be through the Camdeboo National Park which encircles the town, and will also include running over the Nqweba Dam-wall, and through the streets of the historical Graaff-Reinet.
Runners will be taken by bus or truck up to the starting point at the crest of the Ouberg Pass on the R63, some 400m above the town. The runners will descend down the reasonably steep pass for approximately 6 km, enjoying the magnificent views.
The route then drops more gently from the bottom of the Pass to the gates of the Camdeboo National Park from where the runners will enjoy the rest of the race through the National Park, over the Ncwba Dam wall and finally through the streets of the town to finish on Botanics Sports Fields.
The participants in the 10km race will also be bused along the R63 to their starting point a short distance past the gates to the Camdeboo National Park.
This is truly a race where one's PB can be achieved, and certainly any runner will enjoy the breath taking vies, the game viewing while running in the park and finally finishing at the venue for the Karoo-lus Festival.
