NIEU-BETHESDA NEWS —The scenic Karooscape around Nieu-Bethesda is making this quaint village the perfect hub for outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds - be it hikers, bikers or cyclists.
This weekend was the turn of the cyclists as approximately 250 mountain bikers and their backup teams completed the second day of the 3 day Lormar Endurance MTB experience. The cyclists started arriving around noon, having completed the 70km stage which started at Fairview Farm in the Middelburg region on Saturday morning. Events such as these benefit the village in many ways.
Guesthouses were full, the Owlhouse had record turnover for the weekend and street vendors and coffee shops did well. The Nieu-Bethesda Sports' Club was hired by Lormar to be the physical hub of the Saturday stage. Slick and efficient organisation led to a tent town being erected while tired cyclists relaxed in the clubhouse or strolled around the village. A beer at The Brewery was part of the package and live music kept everyone entertained.
Weeks of organisation prior to the event, led to more showers being built at the club, and members were kept on their toes all Saturday serving delicious Darling Brew behind the bar, and making breads and salads to add to the 500 Karan Beef prego steaks that were cooked at lunch and 250 rumps that were cooked at supper by professional braaimasters!
The Lormar Endurance MTB tour can only be deemed as a success. Due to the professional way in which it was run, true Karoo hospitality and the exquisite environment in which it takes place, it is bound to grow in leaps and bounds in years to come.
