GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — Thirteen sides competed in the Graaff-Reinet Bowling Club's Chosen Mixed Pairs competition last weekend.

On Saturday, some combinations played in excess of 72 ends (four games of 18 ends each), which made the day really lo-o-o-ng!

After one round of bowls played on Sunday, the semi-finalists were confirmed and featured William and Hannetjie Whitlock against Niel Colyn and Charlene Burger, while Chris and Alet Slabbert faced up to the combination of Wessel Fourie and Riana du Toit.

The final featured Colyn and Burger against the Slabbert duo.

At the end of the day, the Colyn/Burger pairing defeated their opponents by 24 shots to 9 to claim the Ronél Krige shield.

• From Friday, 28 October to Sunday, 30 October the greens of the Graaff-Reinet Bowling Club will be filled with 26 teams from near and far when the 20th rendition of the Gem of the Karoo Classic, sponsored by KFC will be held.

• Straight after the Gem of the Karoo Classic, the Summer Business League will begin on Thursday evening, 3 November. Business concerns and institutions in Graaff-Reinet are advised to get their teams sorted out and enter as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
