GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - While most residents in Graaff-Reinet were still sleeping, 36 people braved the early morning chill to take part in the 65th Mountain Drive parkrun last Saturday - the first since the recent lockdown on what would have been the hugely popular annual interschool weekend.

Ten-year-old Jarrod Gerber finished in the best time 30:50 while Lorette Luscombe was the first woman over the finish line.
Miné Coetzee (29), Hanré Coetzee (30) and Ohan Coetzee (31) did their first registered parkrun while this was Kathy Helm's (35) first Mountain Drive parkrun.
Ben van Tonder (3), Hester le Roux (4), Michael Bantom (10) and Johan van Rooyen (11) achieved their personal best times.
Race director, Kim Spencer-Primic, says11 unknowns took part in Saturday's parkrun and she urged all athletes and potential participants to register at https://www.parkrun.co.za/register.
"It's free and open to everyone and your details do not get shared with anyone, but you do receive your results from each event and you can partake in parkruns in over 22 countries all over the world
"If you need help registering please contact us at mountaindrive@parkrun.com and we will gladly assist to get your barcode sorted out."
The volunteers who ensured everything went smoothly were Shirley Spencer (timekeeper), Mike Calitz (tokens), Anneke Wieneke (tail walker), Kim Spencer-Primic (race director and scanner) and the two amazing rangers from SANParks at the midway point.
