GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Icy winds couldn't keep golfers away from the Graaff-Reinet Golf Club last weekend, and both Friday and Saturday saw a good turnout.
On Friday's Hoenderdag, golfers teamed up with non-golfers, who played the American Scramble format. In the non-golfers section, Tiaan van Rensburg (26 points) had an exceptional round and easily beat Will Maitland, Roland Palme, and Roland Luscombe, who all scored 16 points.
J Nel from George won the golfers section, followed by Yvonne Drummond and Matthew Beach.
There were 60 entrants in Saturday's Bokkedag better ball competition, with players coming from far and wide.
Rowan George and Chris Koeberg won a kudu, while Anthony Visagie and Hadley Fourie each won a springbuck. In third place was Godwin Bosch and Richard Swartz, and Colin Warner and Jaco Venter were fourth.
Players up to the tenth position won venison, which was sponsored by local farmers. Even those with the lowest scores were presented with prizes to encourage them to return.
A kudu and four springbucks were auctioned by Dave Luscombe. There was a wonderful vibe and the golf club thanked all those who made the day a success.
