GRAAFF-REINET GOLF NEWS - Tim Hobson and Stoney Steenkamp won the Graaff-Reinet Primary Golf Day on Saturday 26 October with 46 points. It was, however, Frikkie Coetzee with his hole-in-one on the fourth hole, that broke a year of hole-in-one drought at the Graaff-Reinet Golf Club.
Coetzee said he could feel his fourth tee-off was good and saw the ball rolling its way to the hole. "My teammate Kenny Eaton and I thought the ball rolled passed the flagged hole," Coetzee said, adding that they looked all over and could not find the ball. They thought it went over the ditch and disappeared.
"When I walked to the hole I could not believe my eyes. There was the ball, in the hole."
According to Coetzee, it was an amazing feeling. After 25 years of golf, it was his first. He said some players play their entire careers without ever making a hole-in-one. "I thought I will one day become part off the no hole-in-one statistics."
The previous hole-in-one was sunk on 11 November 2018, on the sixth hole, by Jean-Louis du Plessis.
With Coetzee overwhelmed by his achievement, he and Eaton finished fifth, on a 44 point count-out to Archie Welman and Willie Claassen, who finished fourth.
Clive Ludick and Davie Jansen (46 points) finished second on a count-out. André Marais and Johandre Ludick (44 points) were third.
The winners, Tim Hobson and Stoney Steenkamp.
The Wednesday sponsored Gold Rush Golf Day was won by Zis Fereira (32 points) and Berny Weyer second, on a winning score count-out. Jacque Wagener was third on (29 points).
The Pick n Pay sponsored day will tee-off at 1pm on Saturday 2 November.
