GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — The Sanlam Cancer Challenge, South Africa’s biggest mass participation sports event, held its men’s and ladies’ club competition at the local golf course this past Saturday, 28 April.
It was a perfect day as participants took to the greens in one of the most popular golf events in South Africa.
The winners of the club competitions at various golf courses around the country will go through to the regional finals, and those winners will qualify for the finals at the Gary Player Country Club and Lost City Golf Course at Sun City later this year.
During Saturday's competition in Graaff-Reinet, the A division saw Johnny Ludick come out tops with 40 points, followed by Charl du Plessis in second place with 39 points and Jaco Venter in third place with 38 points.
The B division was won by Jacques Wagener with 39 points, followed by Chris Koeberg in second place with 35 points and Hadley Fourie in third place with 35 points.
Frikkie Coetzee came in first in the C division with 35 points, followed by Tim Hobson in second place with 32 points and Anthony Visagie in third place with 31 points.
Among the ladies, Bets Henning claimed victory in the C division while Deger Williams came out tops in the B division.
The weekly Wednesday IPS competition, sponsored by Gold Rush and played on 25 April, was won by Hubri Bruyn with 36 points, while the Friday Sundowner contested on 20 April was won by Frikkie Coetzee with 19 points.
• This Saturday, 5 May, golfers will be competing in the monthly Medal competition as well as the first leg of the Club Champs competition.
Tee-off will commence at 07:30 for the A division.
