GRAAFF-REINET GOLF NEWS - The Monthly Medal and the first leg of the Club Championships was played on Saturday in soaring temperatures.
The players in the A and B sections teed-off at 7am to play 36 holes, while the C section and seniors teed-off at 10am. Some golfers were unable to complete their rounds while others persevered and managed to stagger in.
The ladies thought better of it and will play their championships at a later, cooler time.
The Pick n Pay Medal was won by Rowan George with a 72 nett, Noel Taylor-Freeme with 73 nett was second, NJ Arnolidi was third on a count-out to Godwin Bosch, Weppie Weideman, Niek Steyn and Willem Steenkamp, all with a 76 nett. Patrick Ludick was nearest the pin on 4/13 and Dennis Hendricks on 6/15. Henry Galloway was the only golfer to play a two-club.
In the Wednesday Gold Rush sponsored IPS competition, Jacques Wagener came first with 38 points, Wayno Ferreira second with 33 points and Derek Light third with 28 points.
This coming Saturday is a Bonus Bogey competition with a 12.30pm tee-off.
The following weekend, 19, 20 and 21 March, is the annual Proudfoot tournament with visitors competing from all over the country.
