GRAAFF-REINET GOLF NEWS - A wonderful atmosphere prevailed on Wednesday 1 May at the opening of the short course in Graaff-Reinet.
Forty-four players competed in the Gold Rush sponsored better ball competition. A scramble drive allowed the beginners to play from their partner’s drive which resulted in many getting very good scores. J Ludick (senior) and C van Niekerk were the top scorers followed by JL du Plessis and Ilze Nel, C Koeberg and A Ferreira, B Weyer and R Rubidge, G Bosch and J van Wyk and T Pretorius and L Ludick.
The Wednesday IPS competition was won by Pierre van Schalkwyk on 37 points. Second was Noel Taylor-Freeme with 36 points and third Chris Koeberg with 35 points.
Saturday 4 May proved to be another big day for the golf club. The Pick n Pay monthly medal was played with JL du Plessis in first position on a count out to W Weideman, both on 67. R Liebenberg on 69 was third and Johndre Ludick on 71 was fourth on a count out to R George and W Claassen.
The final round of the club championships was also played. The A section was won by JL du Plessis, second P Ludick and third J Ludick. In the B section H Fourie was first with D Luscombe second and W Claassen third.
The C section was won by B Weyer, with W Gentry second and W Steenkamp third.
In the senior section W Weideman was first, C Koeberg second and Wagener third. Bets Henning won the ladies section, with Y Drummond second and C Wadelow third.
On 11 May an IPS competition tees off at 12:00 while the Kroonvale Primary Sponsored Day is on 18 May.
