GRAAFF-REINET GOLF NEWS - Bernie Weyer was elected as the President of the Graaff-Reinet Golf Club at their AGM on Saturday 24 August.

Weyer will be assisted by Club Captain Johny Ludick and additional members Yvonne Drummond, Bets Henning, Henry Galloway and Hadley Fourie.

Exceptional players who were awarded trophies are Johnny and Johndre Ludick (Kirber Cup), Dennis Hendriks (Briscoe Cup), Johnny Ludick (Holmes Cup), Jaun-Louis du Plessis (Club Champion: A section), Hadley Fourie (B section), Bernie Weyer (C section), Weppie Weideman (Seniors), Bets Henning (Ladies) and Frikkie Coetzee (President's Cup).

The Presidents Cup was awarded to Coetzee as he is an extremely keen golfer who plays the game in the right spirit.

After the AGM, the Venter's Wholesalers Better Ball golf day took place.

Yvonne Drummond and André Marais led the field with 49 points.

The Better Ball competition brought out a good sense of team rivalry.

As the better score of the two players is recorded, at least one player must play well at every hole to achieve a winning score.

Frikkie Coetzee was awarded the President's Cup.

Drummond and Marais were followed by Jason Vers and Luther Rogers with 48 points, Weppie Weideman and Nick Steyn with 46 points and Dennis Hendriks and Rowan George with 45 points. The Wednesday Gold Rush IPS was won by Wally Gentry on 37, second was Kenny Eaton on a count out to Nick Steyn, both on 36. Frikkie Coetzee won the Sundowner played on Friday with 21 points, on a count out to Jacques Wagner.

Next Saturday's competition is an IPS with tee-off at 11.30am.
