FOOTBALL NEWS - The annual Oom KA Memorial Games took place at the Kroonvale soccer field from 26 to 28 May, where both soccer and netball were played.
The games started with junior football on 26 and 27 May.
For the soccer semi-finals, four teams lined up: the Camdeboo Academy from uMasizakhe and the Kroonvale teams, Birds United, FC Galaxy and Young Lions.
Soccer semi-finals - 28 May
- Camdeboo Academy bt FC Galaxy 3 - 1.
- Young Lions and Birds United ended in a draw which led to both teams going into a penalty shootout. Birds United won the penalty shootout 4 - 2.
- Birds United FC and Camdeboo Academy also ended in a draw. Birds United won the penalty shootout 5 - 4.
Soccer finals - 28 May
- The final game was played between Academy and Birds. Academy was leading the game from the first half to the second half of the game, pushing their way forward to the box.
The vigilant goalkeeper, Jaquin Jaftha of the Birds, tried to save those aggressive attacks of Academy. Minutes before the end of the game a penalty was awarded to the Birds but with a kick by Remanio Lottering, the ball was placed in the right corner of the box and brought the score to a draw.
The penalty shootout was won by the Birds 5 - 4.
Netbal - 28 May
Four teams took part in the netball games: Birds United, Red-Life, Eagles Netball and Masizakhe Netball Club.
- Masizakhe bt Birds 17 - 15 and won the trophy and cash prize.
