KAROO NEWS - Celebrations after the Karoo Sub-union Regional League were cut short for the victorious Steytlerville Barbarians on 20 May when their first division head coach, Conrad Whitebooi, had to be rushed to the Willowmore Hospital on Saturday evening after being stabbed.
The wound in Whitebooi's back was drained and he has since been discharged.
Assistant coach, Stephen Kota, says the Barbarians are praying for his full recovery and that the stabbing will not discourage them. "We are focused on the game and preparing to win all the matches in the second round of the league as well," says Kota. "We asked God to bless us, and we believe in Him."
The Karoo Sub-union Regional League fixtures will resume on Saturday 24 June for the second round.
The Barbarians retained their position at the top of the southern region's log after beating Klipplaat United 17 - 0 on Barbarian home ground. The Barbarians' second division defeated Klipplaat United 33 - 20.
The Barbarians have 22 log points, while Steytlerville United and Graaff-Reinet Hampshires both have 14 log points. Next in line is Klipplaat United (9), Pearston Villagers (1), and Jansenville Kudu's (0).
