GRAAFF-REINET CRICKET NEWS - The Old Boys of Union High School in Graaff-Reinet showed they still have what it takes, when they victoriously took on the school's 1st cricket team during the traditional Founders' Weekend cricket match on Saturday 25 January.
The Old Boys' team was captained by Dave Stern (class of '98), while the 1st team played under the guidance of captain, Jaden Brotherton.
After winning the toss, the Old Boys batted first and put a total of 229 on the board. Their best batsmen were James Moore (40) and Luke McNaughton (32). The 1st team's best bowlers were Josh Calitz (3 for 43) and Jarrod Naude (2 for 26).
Unfortunately, the 1st team was no match for the oldies, and was eventually bowled out for 141. Their best batsmen were James Pringle (37), Jaden Brotherton (28) and Sisipho Arnols (21), while the Old Boys' best bowlers were Gary Savage (3 for 27), William Copeman (2 for 16) and Nathan Naude (2 for 6).
Old Boys and parents of the school also participated in matches against the 2nd, 3rd and u.15A cricket teams.
"A lot of fun was had as these matches are not only about what happens on the pitch, but also on the sidelines and afterwards, as current and former Unionites of all vintages share some time together," said the school's spokesperson, Mariëtte Burger.
