GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — Saturday, 10 March, saw the team from United Cricket Club in Graaff-Reinet continue their dominance of the Karoo Cricket League, by winning an unprecedented 8th title in a row.
Having won the toss, United captain Edorique Gouws sent in hosts Steytlerville CC to bat first.
This decision soon paid dividends, as early wickets from opening bowler C Rodgers (3-49) had the hosts in trouble.
Excellent bowling from United's other lanky pace bowler M Madeley, who returned match figures of 6-39 in his allocated 9 overs, saw the hosts bundled out for 152.
United's batsmen made quick work of the run chase, reaching the target in 29.2 overs cruising to a 6 wicket victory.
J Vers (48 not out) controlled matters beautifully with the bat, brilliantly supported by L Rodgers with a quick fire 36 not out (which included 4 maximums) the let hander being particularly belligerent on any loose bowling.
United team manager R Swartz says the team is looking forward to continuing their dominance when the new season kicks off in October.
