INTERNATIONAL NEWS – Former Outeniqua High School learner Jo-Ané Van Dyk (26) soared to new heights on Wednesday 7 August, when she secured her place in the women’s javelin final at the Paris Olympics with a stunning personal best of 64.22m.
Her remarkable achievement has injected a fresh burst of energy into the South African athletics team.
Van Dyk is the first South African field athlete to advance beyond the qualifying round at these Games.
Her sensational throw has catapulted her to 10th in the world rankings this year, placing her among the sport’s elite.
The competition will be fierce, with Van Dyk set to face formidable rivals, including Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Maria Andrejczyk of Poland (65.52m), 2016 Olympic champion Sara Kolak of Croatia (64.57m), and Colombia’s world championship silver medallist Flor Denis Ruiz Hurtado (64.40m).
Van Dyk will take on the world’s best in the final on Saturday at 19:30.
