GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Unati Daniels officially took over the reins as municipal manager of Sarah Baartman District Municipality (SBDM) on Wednesday 1 June.
According to Natasha Peterson, the spokesperson for the SBDM, Daniels's appointment is a landmark event in the history of the municipality as there has never been a female municipal manager before.
"Daniels is not entirely new to the role as she has acted in the position several times during her position as Director: Planning and Economic Development," Peterson said.
Daniels is preceded by Ted Pillay who held the position of municipal manager from 2002 to 2022.
"She started her career with the municipality in 2003 when she was appointed as the skills development facilitator by Cacadu District Municipality which would later be renamed, Sarah Baartman District Municipality. In 2005 she was appointed as manager: capacity building and support and in 2018 she was appointed as director: planning and economic development. She has a master’s in development studies from Nelson Mandela University and is well-experienced in local government."
The Executive Mayor, Deon de Vos, upon appointing her remarked, that she will be a valuable asset to the district.
"We are confident that she will take the district to new heights. Having a female leader is a first for our district and we are so proud of her.”
