NATIONAL NEWS - South Africans casting a special vote will get a second and final chance today, with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) saying the special voting process started off well despite some challenges.
Delays were reported at some voting stations yesterday due to factors including the delivery of incorrect ballot papers, community protests and bad weather.
But the IEC says that given the large amount of interest shown in this year’s special voting process, it is pleased with the progress made.
Yesterday, IEC officials visited facilities for the elderly, hospitals and the homes of those who aren’t able to make their way to voting stations.
Today the commission will resume the process that chief electoral officer Mosotho Moepya says allows the IEC to identify possible challenges that could arise tomorrow.
