Breaking News Update
NATIONAL NEWS - George Herald received reports that two suspects who were allegedly involved in the hit on Mark Lifman (57), were arrested near Uniondale earlier this afternoon, Sunday 3 November.
More information about the arrests is awaited from the police.
This follows a shooting in which the underworld boss was assassinated at about 11:30 in the parking area outside the Garden Route Mall.
By Sunday evening, police did not release the identity of the deceased.
"The circumstance of the incident is now the subject of a police investigation, and more information cannot be disclosed at this stage. The victim's identity is yet to be released by SAPS,” said police spokesman, Colonel Andre Traut earlier this afternoon.
Lifman was expected to appear in Western Cape High Court tomorrow, Monday 4 November, along with 13 other suspects including the alleged leader of the Sexy Boys gang, Jerome 'Donkie' Booysen, for the murder trial of Brian Wainstein who was killed at his home in Constantia in 2017.
It is believed that Lifman was in George to play golf at Fancourt before he went to the mall on Sunday morning. He was alone when he was shot, which seems strange as he always had bodyguards with him when he moved around in public in Cape Town.
