MOTORING NEWS - Nissan took the wraps off its latest crossover at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show earlier in January; the 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport showed its lineage is the same as the popular Nissan Qashqai.
The latest introduction gives SUV and crossover shoppers a few reasons to consider the vehicle in its brand context and what Nissan's crossover and SUV lineup will look like overall when it becomes available during the second quarter in the northern hemisphere.
It will rely on the Rogue's brand awareness in the US, but be known as Qashqai in Canada.
The Rogue has sold about 330 000 units in the US which makes it Nissan's most popular model there.
The new Nissan Rogue Sport is sized to compete on the smaller end of the compact crossover segment against the Hyundai Tucson and Mazda CX-5.
The successful Rogue has been regarded as too big for some consumers, which is where the Rogue Sport will come into its own. The Nissan Armada is the brand's only remaining true SUV with a V-8 engine and can tow bigger loads.
