MOTORING NEWS - South African research has shown that many drivers are under the influence of alcohol and illegal drugs.
However, some common over-the-counter medications can also affect driving ability.
If you are taking medication and will have to drive, ensure that you read the package insert to determine whether your driving ability may be affected.
Some cough mixtures contain alcohol as well, so be cautious in your use of these – they are unlikely to place you over the legal limit, but an officer at a road block may confuse your flu symptoms with being under the influence if a breathalyser shows a positive reading for alcohol.
Rather ask a friend, colleague or family member to drive you if you're unwell and taking medication.
