KAROO NEWS - Eighty youths from Hofmeyr were treated to a heritage function on 27 September in the Chris Hani Community Hall in Eluxolweni organised by Constable Nosbesuthu Ngesi, the CPO in charge of the local youth structure and Warrant Officer Mputha Lungelwa.
“The main aim of the function was to introduce the youths to activities in Eluxolweni to distract them from substance abuse. We want them to be strong enough to say 'no' to drugs and alcohol and to involve them in activities during school holidays. We also aim to build stronger personalities and to enhance youth leadership and to prevent the forming of gangs,” said WO Lungelwa.
The importance of heritage and cultural activities was also discussed with the youths and they were introduced to good, clean entertainment.
Const Ngesi says another function in October will focus on the action of and the reaction to gender-based violence.
Adults arrived in colourful traditional African attire. Const Nosbesuthu Ngesi (2nd right) and WO Mputha Lungelwa (far right) organised the heritage youth event.
Dancers from the Bonani Klaas Dance School performed several items.
