HOFMEYR NEWS - The Cobra's youth group from the Eluxolweni child and youth care center in Hofmeyr is presenting a concert that will take place on Saturday 13 May.
They are going to demonstrate their various skills in drama, music, dance and singing.
This concert will be held at the Chris Hani Community Centre at noon. An entry fee between R10 and R5 will be charged.
"Children come to the center for food, and are kept busy until their parents, or guardians can come and fetch them," says Lorain Low, a teacher at the center.
According to Low, many of the youth become drug dependent when they end up on the streets and are influenced by the wrong friends. She says that the centre keeps them out of harm's way. "We are seeing an influx of street children at the centre, no-one is turned away."
At the centre the youth participate in various activities, as well as public speaking. "They are also assisted with homework and taught sports and ball games," says Low.
The youth will also be selling their work as part of a fundraising initiative to buy food and art materials for the centre.
