GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The staff of Vuyani Safe Haven received training in Graaff-Reinet during October and November, which was generously funded by the National Lotteries Commission.
Werner van der Westhuizen, a clinical social worker who has a private practice in Port Elizabeth, facilitated the course, which was held in the Methodist church hall.
The four-day workshop, entitled Beyond Behaviour, focuses on a child and youth care approach to working with children.
Topics covered included child development, understanding trauma, behaviour management and dealing with bullying.
The first two sessions were held in October, giving the participants a month in which to implement their new skills before the final two days in November.
During the second set of workshops, the participants were exposed to more advanced knowledge, and the time was used to consolidate previous learning.
Management would like to congratulate the Vuyani participants, who showed great enthusiasm and invested considerable effort into this programme.
