GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Elderly people in Graaff-Reinet had a special start to Valentine's Day when they were treated to a breakfast of love at Singaphezulu Ngabeyisi.
The elderly were transported to the venue in Fabriek Street from different wards in Graaff-Reinet.
Singaphezulu Ngabeyisi is an NPO that provides care for the elderly in the community. They provide three healthy meals a day, as well as monthly care packages, to needy community members.
Project director Geraldine Moos says that her heart goes out to the elderly who cannot do things for themselves, and she just wants them to feel loved.
The centre would love to be able to provide transport services for clinic and hospital visits.
The centre has recently expanded to include a workshop and skills centre in the industrial area.
Skills currently offered are sewing, woodwork, electrical work and cooking.
The organisation is also starting to focus on the youth, who need activities to keep them occupied daily and not only during the school holidays.
A community member, Laughton Hoffman, has partnered with the centre to start a soccer club for the local youth.
He wants to make a difference in the community.
The project also offers a reading club with trained tutors for children aged six to 12 years.
Singaphezulu Ngabeyisi has been extremely successful thanks to the generosity of some donors.
