GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - This past week saw Union High School's top six junior boys and girls tennis players represent the school at the Cradock Spar Tennis Tournament in three days filled with excellent rallies, great sportsmanship and plenty of growth on the courts.
The school's junior girls impressed with a strong run in their pool, securing victories against Outeniqua Primary, Clarendon Park and Clarendon Primary School for Girls.
Finishing second in their group behind Stirling, they advanced to play for 3rd and 4th place.
Despite a hard-fought final match against Fichardtpark, the girls ended in a commendable 4th place overall out of 10 schools – a result to be incredibly proud of.
The junior boys faced tough opposition in their games against Summerwood, Tjokkies and Selborne, losing all three encounters.
They bounced back, however, with spirited wins against Fichardtpark and the Cradock B team.
It was a wonderful week of tennis for the Union High School junior tennis players, who returned home with not only great results, but also with memories of stiff competition and valuable lessons to build on in the seasons ahead.
All the teams stayed at Die Tuishuise and Victoria Manor in Cradock.
“Well done, Union team, you are an amazing group of learners and such a pleasure to host,” reads a Facebook message to Union’s teams from their hosts.
