GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Dr. Beyers Naude Local Municipality has issued a notice advising motorists and residents to make use of alternative routes for traveling in and out of town when making use of the Tronkdrift crossing. This crossing has been shut down due to water overflowing the area.
The overflow of water is a result of rising water levels combined with strong winds that began yesterday and persist today, 29 April. Authorities are cautioning both motorists and pedestrians to steer clear of the Tronkdrift crossing and opt for alternative routes instead. The Nqweba Dam also experience an overflow, following an increase in dam levels. From a level of 43.50% on Monday, 8 April, the dam reached 100.31% by Friday, 26 April.
The municipality emphasises the importance to heed the warning and futhermore urges everyone to plan their travels accordingly to ensure safety and avoid any inconvenience caused by the closure of the Tronkdrift crossing. Currently the dam is at 99.89% full.
