ABERDEEN NEWS - Several new cases were opened by the Aberdeen police in the last week, the most serious of which is a horrific case of rape.
It is alleged that the repeated rapes took place over a period of time from 2018 to 22 February, at a house in Lotusville.
The victim is a 15 year old girl and cannot be named due to the sensitivity of the case. According to the girl, her stepfather undressed her and had intercourse with her on multiple occasions. The suspect has been arrested, and the case is under investigation.
Two suspects have been arrested in the next case, for possession of suspected stolen property.
On February 19, at about 22:10, a member of Aberdeen Police received a complaint regarding two men coming from the field behind Thembalesizwe, carrying wooden poles. SAPS members immediately went to investigate the claim and found the men with three 2m poles in their possession. When the police enquired about the items, one of the suspects told them that he stole them from a fence on the farm Makateesplaas.
The next case is one of theft, in Lotusville. According to the complainant, he went to tend to his animals and when he returned to his residence, he saw two suspects (known to him) running out of his yard with trees in their hands, followed by complainant’s wife and their dogs who gave chase. The complainant tried to catch the suspects, but could not catch up with them. The complainant went back to his home and found that suspects had stolen most of the vegetables from his garden, as well as his bicycle. The value of stolen items amounts to R1719. The incident took place sometime between 23:00 on 17 February and 08:30 on 20 February. The suspects have not yet been arrested.
On Saturday morning 23 February at 11:45, an elderly lady arrived back at her home in Church Street after shopping in town. She was not aware that she was being watched by three young boys. They came up to her and asked for money and bread and when she said that she did not have any, one of them grabbed the bag of groceries she had with her, knocking her over, and they fled the scene. Value of groceries is R165. A case of common robbery has been opened.
A domestic dispute led to the opening of a case of malicious damage to property in Lotusville. The incident took place on 23 February. According to the complainant, she went to the shop and saw the suspect (the father of her child) sitting at the corner, drinking. When she drove past him, he jumped in front of the vehicle and tried to stop her. He tried to force the complainant to give their child to him, but when she refused, he threw stones at the windscreen. The damage amounts to R1 200, and no arrest has yet been made.
There were two cases of stock theft. In the first, according to the complainant, a boerbok ewe worth R1 200 was taken out of the kraal in his backyard in Kudu Street. The incident took place between 16:00 on 23 February and 07:20 the next day. The suspect is unknown at this stage.
The complainant in the second case went to check on his stock on Saturday 23 February at about 09:00 and everything was in order. He again went to his farm on the Beaufort West road on Monday, 25 February at 08:00, but found that two of his rams were missing. When he searched the field, he found skins next to the store room. The value of the rams is R8 000.
In a case of business burglary, the complainant alleges that between 17 February at 12:00 and the same time on 24 February, chairs and a door were taken from the George Hayward Sportsgrounds in Lotusville. The value of the stolen property is about R2 600. Entrance was gained through the front door of the club house.
There were two arrests in Aberdeen during this period, one each for rape and common robbery. In the minor cases, there was only one person arrested this week for being drunk and disorderly.
