GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Graaff-Reinet Raptors Mixed Martial Arts Club recently achieved one of its greatest milestones when four of its students, Joe Gildenhuys, AJ Cronje, Jean van Wyngaard and Arno van der Merwe, participated in the World Kickboxing Association (WKA) International World Championships in Sheffield, England.
• Joe Gildenhuys received two bronze medals – one for continuous fighting and one for low kick.
• AJ Cronje received a bronze medal for continuous fighting and placed 4th in both points fighting and low kick.
• Jean van Wyngaard placed 4th in continuous fighting and 5th in points fighting.
• Arno van der Merwe placed 5th in both continuous fighting and points fighting.
All four students were awarded their Presidential Colours - an incredible honour and testament to their dedication and excellence.
According to sensei Aletta van den Bosch, this year marked their first time competing at the national level, followed by participation in the World Championships, where they entered open divisions based on weight and age rather than skill level.
“We are immensely proud of these students. Their commitment, discipline and countless hours of hard work have truly paid off,” says Van den Bosch.
“These outstanding results are even more remarkable considering that this is only the beginning of their martial arts journey.”
